How do I know how much to feed my dog?

It is vitally important to feed your dog the right amount. Like us humans, feeding too little will mean that they are not getting what they need and feeding too much will lead to them gaining weight and becoming obese. How much you feed them will depend on a number of factors including:

  • Their age and size – growing puppies will need more food than a fully-grown dog
  • How much exercise or work they do
  • Whether they are recovering from illness or injury
  • Whether they need to gain weight or lose weight

Puppy raw feeding guide

In order to sustain their ideal bodyweight, you should be feeding your adult dog between 2-3% of its bodyweight per day. For fast growing puppies, as we detail in the puppy feeding table below, there is more variance in what they might need as they mature.

When you begin raw feeding your puppy, always ensure you use careful observation: as your puppy develops, to protect their joints they should be lean and not overweight.

Some puppies will need the upper raw puppy food limits allowed, whereas some will need the lower limits. This will vary on a dog-by-dog basis, so please refer to this information as common sense guidance rather than facts.
